It is a current of the nineteenth century: Neoclassicism, of which it is the highest expression. Interested in furniture, architecture, decorative and visual arts, the Empire style characterised each field in a distinctive way; it went beyond the geographical limits of birth to expand much further and enjoy enormous success. First of all, since Napoleon's Empire style is a current of Neoclassicism, the reference to classical art is evident, both in furniture and architecture.
This is particularly visible in the choice of shapes and decorations.

This is an absolutely fabulous pair of Italian carved wood candlesticks converted to table lamps, early 19th century, painted with ivory lacquer and finished with original gold leaf gilding.
Each candlestick stands on a tripod base ending with scrolled feet, with gilt ornament to the centre panel and gilt decorations to the upper stem; it's the usual pattern with only one side decorated, wired and in perfect working condition.
The lampshades are new handmade using Fortuny fabric, Caravaggio pattern, in deep burgundy & gold color, finished with gold trim.
