Jim Rose Two-Door Strips Quilt Cupboard, Brightly Colored Steel Art Furniture
By Jim Rose
Located in Chicago, IL
This is a totally functional two door cupboard. It is created from hot-rolled steel and found steel. The legs are made from salvaged pipe. The panels on the door fronts and sides are made from salvaged pieces of steel with the original paint and texture making this modern industrial aesthetic a model of sustainable design. The pattern is inspired by the Quilts of Gee's Bend Alabama. Prominent colors in this piece are red, green blue and grey. There are two fixed shelves inside the cabinet. Jim Rose Two-door strips quilt cupboard Hot roll and found painted steel 36 H x 35 W x 18 D in 91.44 H x 88.90 W x 45.72 D cm Jim Rose b. 1966 Bio: Born in Indiana, Jim Rose lived in Europe until he returned to the United States to attend college. After one year at Bard College, Jim transferred to the School of the Art Institute in Chicago (SAIC) where he graduated in 1988 with a BFA. His skillful interpretation of the Shaker design is a result of intense research and field study of Shaker furniture, architecture, culture and history. After over two decades of dedicated work, he has mastered the minimalism of the Shaker technique and created his own unique visual vernacular. The quilts of Gee's Bend have become a monumental influence taking this artist's work to new levels of unique interpretation and artistry. His selection of aged steel results in a patina directly related to that of aged wood while his colored strips beautifully mimic worn cloth. Each piece of furniture is masterfully made and intended for daily use. Jim Rose’s steel furniture is featured every year at SOFA Chicago for the past 25 years. I Need a Boy-Toy, Vanity Mirror, Mixed Media Objet D'art
By John Seubert
Located in Chicago, IL
Self-taught artist John Seubert, AKA John Dolly, uses objects he uncovers as he rehabs older homes in Chicago. This piece has two frames that are hinged together. A mirror adorns the outside. When opened, the right panel has a primitive figure painting while the left has a metal plaque with the phrase "I Need a Boy Toy" stamped into it. When closed, the back panel is stamped with "Like I Need a Refrigerator" and signed. John Seubert I Need a Boy-Toy (Like I Need a Refrigerator) mixed media 12.50h x 8.50w x 1.50d in 31.75h x 21.59w x 3.81d cm JSE074 In the early Nineties, John Seubert was living in a former hotel in a high-rise building on St. James Place in Chicago. The apartment was tiny, as hotel rooms tend to be, and clad with paper-thin walls allowing sound to pass from one apartment to the other. At the time, John’s artwork consisted of pounding copper sheets into tables which was a noisy endeavor to say the least. Following several noise complaints from the neighbors, John had a dream that he was living in a ramshackle house but with plenty of room to work and no attached neighbors. The following day after lunching at the McDonalds in Lincoln Park, John wandered the neighborhood a came upon a shabby, falling-down old Victorian house. He located the real estate agent, put in an offer, and weeks later was pushing a shopping cart full of his belongings to his new home. This 144-year-old Painted Lady provided a blank canvas for this inimitable artist. For many years the house remained so empty that John was able to ride his Japanese fold up bike throughout the 1st floor. “Some people want to have sex...

Modern Stump Tables, Square
By Bertu Furniture
Located in Oak Harbor, OH
Please scroll down to read IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT OUR STUMPS before purchase! Please specify if you'd like black, whitewash or natural when ordering. Why buy our stumps? KILN DRIED Our stumps all go through a drying process in our kiln, sometimes for up to a month. We are meticulous with bringing each and every log to a specific moisture level. This process helps with major cracking, long-term moisture issues, and bugs. ECO FRIENDLY In an effort to replenish the trees we use, we plant 50+ trees a year. In addition, we practice salvage logging. Where do we source these? Some of the trees fall naturally. Some have damage from severe wind, lightning, flood, disease, or other natural disturbance so they need to be cut and removed before they fall. Others are fresh cut because people want them off their land. Salvage logging may reduce erosion, reduce intensity of future wildfires, and slow buildup of pest insects. FAMILY OWNED These are made from our family to yours. Quality is of utmost importance, and we hand cut, de-bark, sand, and finish every piece with care. COMMERCIAL GRADE These stumps are meant to be loved and USED. Each is finished with a durable commercial-grade finish. This finish is tough enough for spills, kids, and holds up in hotel and hospitality settings. These modern stump tables...
