Art Deco Italian black and white couple of Cabinets -Secretaries Paolo Buffa
By Paolo Buffa
Located in Valladolid, ES
One of a kind pair of cabinet-secretaire in black lacquer wood and parchement attibuted to Paolo Buffa (Milan, Italy, 1903-1970).
The furniture designed by the Milanese architect and designer Paolo Buffa is often unique, based on the needs of his clients and, for this reason, always different. What unites his pieces, in addition to the perfection in their execution, is the neoclassical style that Buffa absorbed during his training in Gio Ponti's studio in the 1920s: the solid and elegant lines that Buffa applies to his furniture maintain a kind of continuity between the 19th century and the 20th century and characterize all of his production. The use of precious woods, often decorated with fine grooves on the surfaces and brass ornaments, is another characteristic of his pieces. His most frequent collaboration was with the historic Milanese furniture factory Quarti, with which he designed several public and private projects for prestigious clients, such as the decoration of King Farouk of Egypt...

Rare Angelo Ostuni for O-Luce Floor Lamp with Ocher Yellow Shade
By Angelo Ostuni, O-Luce
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Angelo Ostuni for O-Luce, floor lamp, model '312 V2', Carrara marble, brass, coated aluminum, Italy, 1949
This floor lamp is designed by the influential designer in the field of lighting design Angelo Ostuni in 1949 which his brother Giuseppe took into production for their new established lighting design company 'O-Luce'. His first models designed between 1946 and 1948 were made in a more traditional manner to suit the taste of the Milanese upper-middle class. Ostuni's shift in his design approach is clearly displayed in the features of this designed model. Not only is this lamp aesthetically pleasing, it is clearly designed to provide a light source to adjust to one's own requirement. O-Luce manufactured an extremely complicated construction of rollers and springs inside the lamp bar (less than 15mm circumference) which allowed a smooth height adjustment without any cable impingement. Combined with a precision ball joint at the base, this lamp has an almost unlimited rotating telescopic flexibility. In addition, the cone-shaped aluminum shade coated in ocher yellow can be rotated to change the direction of the light partition. In 1950, Angelo Ostuni and his brother received international recognition for their exceptional lighting designs, mostly for the application of adjustable features in their designs which was highly innovative during that period.
Angelo Ostuni (1904-1981) was an Italian designer and the elder brother of Giuseppe Ostuni (1907-1994) who established the Italian lighting company O-Luce. Together, they collaborated on numerous of designs for O-Luce that became one of Italy's leading lighting design companies. Angelo Ostuni was born in Trieste, Italy in 1904, when the city was part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Ten years later, the First World War began. In 1915 Italy declared war on the Habsburg Empire and soon the Italian army bombed Trieste in May 1915. The Ostuni family endured some difficult times and eventually moved to Milan in 1919. Angelo enrolled into the Instituto Tecnico of Milan. From a young age, he showed a special talent for drawing. La Fiamma...
