Confetti Rain 2. landscape impressionist
By Katherine Kean
Located in Palm Desert, CA
Rain on the windshield falls in fat, colorful drops, and rivulets. Painted in layers and textured with thick and thin paint. This one in a series of "windshield paintings" is painterly, brushy, and slightly textured. It is painted on gallery wrapped linen over 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers, with color matched, hand painted edges, wired with finger friendly coated wire and ready for installation. From the artist: An unexpected, but welcome rain, as experienced from a place of comfort. My windshield paintings aim to capture these fleeting and intimate moments in time and reveal the serene center that can arise in the midst of natures turbulence. A childhood of moving and traveling around the United States has shaped Katherine Kean's vision, as have journeys to eastern Africa, Mexico, Scotland, France and painting jaunts all over Kean's now native California. Born in West Virginia, moving later to Ohio and New Jersey, but growing up mainly in Massachusetts, she attended Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a BFA in Film, Video and Animation. Long fascinated by the intersection of order and chaos in the natural world, Katherine Kean skillfully uses observation, memory, and interpretation to translate her love of natures kinetic phenomena into paintings that capture the often turbulent emotions within light, weather, and landscapes. Her work has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, including the LACMA Art Rental and Sales Gallery and the Brand Library Art Gallery in Los Angeles...

"New York City Skyline View from the East River, " Lionel Reiss, Jewish Artist
By Lionel Reiss
Located in New York, NY
Lionel S. Reiss (1894 - 1988) New York City Skyline View from the East River Watercolor on paper 13 x 19 inches Signed lower left In describing his own style, Lionel Reiss wrote, “By nature, inclination, and training, I have long since recognized the fact that...I belong to the category of those who can only gladly affirm the reality of the world I live in.” Reiss’s subject matter was wide-ranging, including gritty New York scenes, landscapes of bucolic Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and seascapes around Gloucester, Massachusetts. However, it was as a painter of Jewish life—both in Israel and in Europe before World War II—that Reiss excelled. I.B. Singer, the Nobel Prize winner for Literature, noted that Reiss was “essentially an artist of the nineteenth century, and because of this he had the power and the courage to tell visually the story of a people.” Although Reiss was born in Jaroslaw, Poland, his family immigrated to the United States in 1898 when he was four years old. Reiss's family settled on New York City’s Lower East Side and he lived in the city for most of his life. Reiss attended the Art Students League and then worked as a commercial artist for newspapers and publishers. As art director for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, he supposedly created the studio’s famous lion logo. After World War I, Reiss became fascinated with Jewish life in the ‘Old World.’ In 1921 he left his advertising work and spent the next ten years traveling in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Like noted Jewish photographers Alter Kacyzne and Roman Vishniac, Reiss depicted Jewish life in Poland prior to World War II. He later wrote, “My trip encompassed three main objectives: to make ethnic studies of Jewish types wherever I traveled; to paint and draw Jewish life, as I saw it and felt it, in all aspects; and to round out my work in Israel.” In Europe, Reiss recorded quotidian scenes in a variety of media and different settings such as Paris, Amsterdam, the Venice ghetto, the Jewish cemetery in Prague, and an array of shops, synagogues, streets, and marketplaces in the Jewish quarters of Warsaw, Lodz, Krakow, Lublin, Vilna, Ternopil, and Kovno. He paid great attention to details of dress, hair, and facial features, and his work became noted for its descriptive quality. A selection of Reiss’s portraits appeared in 1938 in his book My Models Were Jews. In this book, published on the eve of the Holocaust, Reiss argued that there was “no such thing as a ‘Jewish race’.” Instead, he claimed that the Jewish people were a cultural group with a great deal of diversity within and between Jewish communities around the world. Franz Boas...

New York Bag Art
By Thitz
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Step into a visionary world where colorful urban landscapes unfold on a canvas like no other, as German artist Thitz takes the art world by storm with his breathtaking city scenes painted upon recycled paper bags. Welcome to a realm where creativity, environmental consciousness, and positive aspirations intertwine in a harmonious symphony of colors, energy, and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Thitz is a highly sought-after German artist renowned for his original bag artworks. Celebrated for his extraordinary ability to reimagine landscapes and city scenes, Thitz has ingeniously pioneered a groundbreaking artistic technique that has captivated art enthusiasts worldwide. In a remarkable display of creativity and resourcefulness, Thitz masterfully incorporates recycled luxury shopping bags into canvases that transcend conventional boundaries. Thitz's unique artistic approach breathes life into city scenes found during his travels. This original 40-inch high by 32-inch wide mixed media painting is created with acrylic paint on top of repurposed shopping bags that have been adhered to the canvas in such a way that the bag handles extend from the sides of the artwork. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. The artwork is signed on the front and back. The sides are painted as a continuation of the artwork. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. The technique employed by Thitz is as unique as his message, where each paper bag is carefully opened out flat to maximize coverage. The bag handles expand beyond the canvas. Utilizing acrylics with remarkable finesse, he breathes life into the landmarks he depicts. The result is an awe-inspiring portrayal of cityscapes bursting with vibrant primary colors, brimming with a lively assortment of people, symbolizing the spirit of unity and harmony. Thitz's artistic journey has been an ardent exploration of the concept of Utopia, an endeavor that spans an impressive twelve years. His art is an expression of boundless optimism, acting as a beacon illuminating the way toward a better world, one free from the clutches of climate change. Thitz's artistic vision transcends geographical boundaries, bringing to life the most prominent locations around the world. From the iconic skylines of metropolises to hidden gems nestled in quaint corners, his artwork immortalizes the essence of diverse urban landscapes. He studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart finishing in 1989 and then continued his studies at the Facultad de Bellas Artes Universidad de Barcelona in 1990. He created his first bag paintings in 1987. Thitz's positive visions of the future are an invitation to embrace positivity and hope for a future that knows no bounds. In a world seeking inspiration, his art stands as a testament to the power of creativity and its potential to ignite a flame of transformation in our hearts and minds. His highly detailed original artworks have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including numerous highly regarded art galleries, art fairs, and museums. Drifting Glo landscape clouds colorful
By Katherine Kean
Located in Palm Desert, CA
The light of the setting sun reflects atmospheric particles, creating vivid color, a reminder of nature's power. Oil on gallery wrapped linen with hand painted edges. Wired for installation with finger-friendly coated wire. From the artist: As a painter, I seek moments of breath-taking transition in nature; a gathering of clouds or changing tides; times when the elements of the landscape combine with the alchemy of imagination to illuminate the world of heightened mood and sensation. My paintings aim to capture these fleeting moments in time and reveal the serene center that can arise in the midst of nature's turbulence. Thomas Wijck Italian Landscape Paint Oil canvas Old master 17th Century Flemish
Located in Riva del Garda, IT
Thomas Wyck or Wijck (Bewerwyck 1616- Haarlem 1677) Roman landscape with washerwomen and apple seller about 1660 Oil on panel - 35 x 47 cm., Framed 51 x 62 cm. Provenance: Bonhams Auction, London, Old Master Paintings 9.12.2015 Soraya Cartategui Fine Art Auction - Madrid / New York The work is cataloged on the RKD archive (Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie). It is a work of the painter Thomas Wyck (Bewerwyck 1616 - Haarlem 1677), an important Flemish artist of the Golden Age, originally from the city of Haarlem and specialized in the creation of splendid landscapes and genre scenes, often set outdoors and populated by figures of commoners, as in our case with a couple of washerwomen who get water from a well and a woman who sells apples to a traveler. Active in Rome between 1640 and 1642 - known here with the nickname of 'Flemish Thomas' - his style was strongly influenced by this Italian stay, and in particular by the contact with that group of Nordic painters, almost all Dutch, working in Rome in the full seventeenth century, called Bamboccianti. The proposed canvas is in fact part of the typical “bambocciate” trend, in the execution of which the echoes of the representations by the school leader Pieter van Laer...
