Raymond Pettibon Andrew Pope Inside Outside Baseball (Raymond Pettibon baseball)
By Raymond Pettibon
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Raymond Pettibon, Andrew Pope: Inside Outside Baseball: A rare 2014 limited edition, hand-signed zine created by Raymond Pettibon & Andrew Pope to benefit New York's Printed Matter Inc. This scarce work quickly sold out upon its release. Medium: Offset printed staple-bound artist zine. 25 pages. Dimensions: 11 x 8.5 in (27.94 x 21.59 cm) Hand signed by both artists & numbered from an edition of 100 on the mid upper right. Excellent overall condition. Raymond Pettibon is a contemporary American artist known for his stylized ink drawings combining images and text. His inventive narratives blend historical content with consumer culture to yield incisive critiques of contemporary society. “I was making my work as transparent as possible, without equivocations, without calling attention to itself, without apology,” he explained. “There's a lot of conventions in the art world that are not to be transgressed, but my economy of means doesn't abide by those strictures.” Born Raymond Ginn on June 16, 1957 in Tucson, AZ, the artist is self-taught, but cites drawings by William Blake, Edward Hopper, Francisco Goya, and John Sloan as instructive to his practice. Deriving inspiration from comics, cartoons, and other pop culture iconography, Pettibon began designing album covers and ephemera for his brother’s band Black Flag in the mid-1970s. He went on to produce cover art for Sonic Youth, the Minutemen, and the Foo Fighters. In 2017, the artist was the subject of the major retrospective “Raymond Pettibon: A Pen of All Work,” held at the New Museum in New York, where he currently lives and works. Today, his works can be found in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Gallery in London, among others. By Jimmy Ernst
Located in Rochester Hills, MI
Jimmy Ernst  Plate I - 1970 Print - Screen Print on Heavy Paper 28'' x 37'' inches Edition: Signed in pencil and numbered 112/125 Jimmy Ernst’s artwork was influenced by a number of powerful talents and vital currents in the art of his time. Son of Max Ernst, Jimmy drew upon the biomorphic and surreal compositions of his father, as well as Arp, Klee, André Breton, and Lyonel Feininger. His mature oil paintings, which emerged in the 1950s and 1960s, reflect the Atomic Age aesthetic of the period. Often, they resemble crystals or webs; many look like vast labyrinths and are interpreted as symbols of the unconscious mind. Ernst was always interested in spirituality and drew inspiration from indigenous American art...

Barbra Stresiand "Belle of 14th Street" 1973 CBS TV Special 20th Century Litho
By Albert Al Hirschfeld
Located in New York, NY
Barbra Stresiand "Belle of 14th Street" 1973 CBS TV Special 20th Century Litho Signed and numbered 10/150 in pencil, lower margin. Etching, 13.5” x 9.75”. Framed 21.25” x 17.25”. Pulled in 1975. Belle of 14th Street After two successful television shows on CBS, Barbra's manager, Marty Erlichman told the press, “We don't intend to go to the well once too often. The next special will have other performers. However, Barbra will never become just another hostess for just another musical variety show. Whatever we decide to do in the future shows, she will dominate in a unique fashion.” Barbra’s third television special for CBS and her sponsor, Monsanto, was titled The Belle of 14th Street . In February 1966, shortly after finishing up Color Me Barbra , Streisand and husband Elliott Gould took a second honeymoon in Paris. The trip was financed by her television corporate sponsor, Chemstrand. Barbra told the press, “I’m here to purchase the wardrobe for my next TV special. Cost is no object because my sponsor is picking up the tab.” At that point the theme of her third TV show would be fashion, and Paris offered many couture choices. Barbra was seen at a Dior fashion show wearing not the designer’s clothes, but a jaguar suit and hat she had designed herself. In all, it is said Barbra chose nine Dior outfits at a cost of $150,000. However, Barbra Streisand's third television special for CBS was postponed. In March 1966, Barbra flew to London to appear at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Funny Girl . Shortly after beginning her run in London, Barbra announced her pregnancy. Not only did that cause her concert tour to be abbreviated, but Barbra’s television special was postponed as well. Barbra told the BBC in July 1966: “I also can’t do my third television show, which I was supposed to do here [London].” Returning to the States, Barbra performed four concert dates, and then retired to enjoy the rest of her pregnancy and give birth to her son, Jason, in December 1966. CBS and Chemstrand wanted a new special by the end of 1967, therefore production on the show picked up momentum in March 1967. (Barbra was due in Hollywood in May to begin shooting the Funny Girl film.) The format and theme of the television show had changed, too. Instead of centering on fashion, Barbra’s next special would be situated in a 1900’s Vaudeville theater. “We were all determined that the show not be just a variety format,” director Joe Layton said. “We wanted something different. So we hit upon the idea of restaging a vaudeville performance. All the acts, songs, skits and specialties had to be derivative of the period between 1895-1912.” Barbra’s creative collaborators did meticulous research on Vaudeville — “We even called George Burns in Hollywood and Jack Pearl,” said Barbra’s manager, Marty Erlichman. Entitled The Belle of 14th Street , the new special would allow Barbra to play several different characters but not have to shoulder the burden of carrying another one-woman show—this time Streisand would be accompanied by guest stars: Broadway actor Jason Robards; Vaudeville veteran John Bubbles; and Lee Allen...

"Shirasuka Rokuro" - Mid 19th Century Figurative Japanese Woodblock Print
By Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III)
Located in Soquel, CA
"Shirasuka Rokuro" - Mid 19th Century Figurative Japanese Woodblock Print Beautiful mid 19th century figural Japanese woodblock print of a samurai named Shirasuka Rokuro by Utagawa Toyokuni III (Kunisada) (Japanese, 1786-1864/5). The samurai is holding a spear, standing under a tree with full blossoms. He is wearing an elaborate outfit, including two swords. Artist's signature and chop are in the lower left corner of the piece. Presented in a wood frame with a cream mat. Frame size: 21.5"H x 16.5"W Image size: 13.75"H x 9.5"W During his lifetime Kunisada Utagawa was considered to be the best print designer by his contemporaries. He was more popular than Hiroshige, Hokusai or Kuniyoshi. And Kunisada was extremely productive. His total output is estimated at more than 20,000 designs, many made by his students. Kunisada was born near Edo (today Tokyo) as the son of an affluent merchant with a ferry boat license. At the age of fifteen he joined the famous art school of Utagawa Toyokuni and took the name Kunisada. In 1807 the young artist produced his first illustrated book. And in 1808 his first actor prints were published. His fame grew fast. While other artists like Kuniyoshi Utagawa or Hiroshige had to fight for recognition for years, he was successful from the beginning. He should become the most commercially successful of all woodblock printmakers ever. His early success may not have had a good influence on his personality. He had a reputation for his conceited personality. Kunisada designed a wide spectrum of traditional ukiyo-e subjects like kabuki themes, beautiful women, historical events and quite a few shunga...

East 15th Street (Faberman 8)
By Yvonne Jacquette
Located in New York, NY
Yvonne Jacquette EAST 15th Street (Faberman 8), 1974 Lithograph in five colors on Arches Cover paper Hand signed by the artist on lower right front This is a rare pencil signed proof, aside from the regular edition of 125. Printed by Paul Narkiewicz and Chip Elwell; published by Brooke Alexander, Inc. (to benefit the Horace Mann School in NYC) 17 3/8 × 21 1/8 inches Unframed Other examples of this exquisite work are in major museums and collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art. Literature: Aerial Muse: The Art of Yvonne Jacquette by Hilarie Faberman (2002-01-29), 8. Yvonne Jacquette Biography: Yvonne Jacquette (1934 - 2023) was born on December 15, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence from 1952 to 1955, when she moved to New York City. She continued to live and work in New York City, as well as in Searsmont, Maine. A flight to San Diego in 1969 sparked Jacquette’s interest in aerial views, after which she began flying in commercial airliners to study cloud formations and weather patterns. She soon started sketching and painting the landscape as seen from above, beginning a process that has developed into a defining element of her art. Her first nocturnal painting with an aerial perspective, East River View At Night (1978), inspired a lasting exploration of the effects of bright lights, reflections, and indistinct objects set against surrounding darkness. The city of New York was a special focus of Jacquette’s. In the 1980s and 1990s, she chartered planes from Teterborough Airport in New Jersey to circle the city while she sketched the scene below. She also worked from the Empire State Building, and, from 1974 through early 2001, often used empty offices or an enclosed deck at the World Trade Center. Jacquette painted aerial landscapes across the country, as well as city views in San Francisco, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Tokyo, and New Orleans. After a trip to Hong Kong in 1990, she began incorporating composite viewpoints into her work, realizing that she could better express the city’s many layers of complexity by creating new spatial configurations through multiple perspectives. Since then, she continued to base her paintings on pastels made from direct observation, while frequently enlivening compositions through heightened color, repetition of certain elements, and manipulation of light, scale, and perspective. As she approached the rendering of space with greater freedom, her paintings became both more inventive and disjunctive, combining aspects of observation, memory, and imagination.  Jacquette participated in her first group show in New York City in 1962 and has been exhibiting steadily since. In 1965 she had a one-person exhibition at Swarthmore College, PA. In 1983, the St. Louis Art Museum organized her first major museum exhibition. A comprehensive retrospective, Aerial Muse: The Art of Yvonne Jacquette, originated at the Cantor Center for Visual Arts, Stanford University, CA in 2002 and traveled to Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville, ME; Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Salt Lake City; and the Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, NY. In 2008, the Museum of the City of New York organized Under New York Skies: Nocturnes by Yvonne Jacquette, which was shown concurrently with Street Dance, an exhibition of photography by her late husband, Rudy Burckhardt...
