Collection: Multiple Perspectives Artist Statement Having started my career by painting Rembrandt-like portraits of luminous white roses, I credit my discovery of fractals for transforming my artistic vision, and changing the direction and force of my work. Always working with a single image of a flower, or a component thereof, I have stripped away the mask of the exterior form and magnified the interior thousands of times to depths beyond what is visible to the naked eye. My subject is no longer simply a flower; it is a dynamical system existing in a chaotic universe filled with energy, turbulence, mystery and beauty. Additionally, I have discovered that the system repeats itself through multiple phenomena. This is where I have taken the literal definition of fractals, and put my creative voice to the principles. Though the non-representational work may suggest a natural likeness - a wing, a wave, a shell, or even a human form - my vision invites a fresh dialogue between aesthetics and science. Whether creating evocative representational images or boldly deceptive non-objective work, my focus is always on the choreography of the movement, the organization of the space, the subtlety in the tonal transitions, and the intricacy of the brushwork. I love to experiment with perspective and the layering of directional lines, often simplifying a subject into what I see as an assembly of elements. I strive in my paintings to strike a balance between painting a particular subject and trying not to focus my attention on the most obvious elements. I work from my sketch books and photographs and am very lucky to be surrounded by amazing inspirational landscapes in the west of Scotland. My studio is at home and when I’m not painting I’m mum to two young children and my husband and I are also renovating our home. As you can imagine the days with us are creative, busy and unpredictable. I studied at Duncan of Jordanstone college of art and design, graduating in 2000. This piece was inspired by a feeling of tranquillity walking through a bed of flowering heather. I loved the combination of birch trees amongst the beautiful pinks and lilacs. The soft lighting and sense of depth gives the painting a dreamy feel and draws you in. Mostly created with a pallet knife to create lovely textures. She also designed a great variety of items including rings, Jewellery Suites, watches, cufflinks, Jewel incrusted clocks, tiaras and precious ornaments.
