Mid 20th Century oil on panel view of sailboats in the port of Monte Carlo. The painting carries a monogram of the peace symbol and a date to the back of the panel.
The artist has captured the colours and excitement of a sailing regatta in the port of Monte Carlo. The unusual perspective is taken from the prow of the vessel as it sails into harbour. The artist has created the feeling of excitement in the port. a large three mast schooner in the distance ahead, the blue of the Mediterranean sea, the red tiled rooftops, the mountain presiding over the port and the white church on the hillside.
A lively colour palette, the freshness of the abundant white and a mixture of techniques including sgraffito make this a very successful and charming composition.
