About the Item
1930s Oil on canvas portrait by S Cousin. The painting is signed bottom right and the subject 'Henri Cousin' titled on the back of the canvas.
An engaging and charming oil portrait of Henri Cousin. The artist has captured the piercing blue eyes of the sitter looking out from the portrait engaging us with his character and thoughts. The flesh tones are beautifully captured with a healthy glow to the face, straw blond hair swept to the side in a characteristic haircut of the period. Cousin, the artist has used a colour palette of blues for the coat, shirt and background to the scene. It is assumed the sitter is probably the son of the artist which is why he has managed to capture the character of the subject so successfully.
