David Alfaro Siqueiros Art
Mexican, 1896-1974
David Alfaro Siqueiros (born José de Jesús Alfaro Siqueiros; December 29, 1896 – January 6, 1974) was a Mexican social realist painter, best known for his large public murals using the latest in equipment, materials and technique. Along with Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco, he was one of the most famous of the "Mexican muralists".[1] He was a member of the Mexican Communist Party, and a Stalinist and supporter of the Soviet Union who led an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Leon Trotsky in May 1940.(Biography provided by Fine Art San Diego)

PORTRAIT OF MOISES SAENZ.
By David Alfaro Siqueiros
Located in Portland, ME
Siqueiros, David Alfaro (Mexican, 1896-1974). PORTRAIT OF MOISES SAENZ. Lithograph, 1931. Edition of 50. Publshed by Weyhe Gallery, New York, and printed by George Miller. Signed in pencil. 21 1/2 x 16 1/8 inches, 545 x 410 mm. (image), 28 1/4 x 23 inches, 718 x 583 mm. (sheet). In very good condition aside from two vary small abraded areas at the bottom right of the image.
This is one of several portrait heads of distingushed Mexican public figures that Siqueiros did in lithography which were published by Weyhe. Most of them share the characteristic of making the head the entire composition, creating the effect of monumental sculpture. Moises Saenz was an educator who was influenced by the theories and philosophy of John Dewey.

Portrait of a Cairn Terrier
by Frances Mabel Hollams (British 1877-1963)
signed & dated 1946
titled to the lower corner
oil painting on wood panel: 14 x 18 inches
framed
condition: very good and presentable; some spots of surface dirt and abrasions
provenance: private collection in the Cotswolds, England.
Frances Mabel Hollams (British 1877-1963) was a popular British painter of horses and dogs. Hollams typically painted her subjects on wooden panels with no background, so that the grain of the wood remains visible. She grew up at Dene Park in Shipbourne and later moved to Puttenden Manor near the hamlet of Dunks Green.
Hollams studied under the artist Frank Calderdon (1865-1943) and, at a time when most schools did not accept female students, she studied in Paris at the Académie Julian. She was also one of the first female Royal Academicians, exhibiting eight paintings , and in 1899 was elected to the Society of Women Artists.
Hollams was married to land agent Charles Lionel Fox who worked for the Fairlawne Estate, Tonbridge, Kent. The Fairlawne Estate was owned by the Cazelet family, who were well-known racehorse owners and trainers. Major Peter Cazalet was the trainer of horses owned by the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother – who used to stay at the estate on visits.
