“My work reflects on experiences of transformation, alchemy and the sublime, manifesting in sculptures that undulate between soft and hard, alive and static, real and imagined. These works shape-shift, oscillating between abstraction, flora, fauna and mineral. This has the effect of compressing time, with elements frozen in mid-transformation. This dislocation reflects on mortality and ephemerality, exploring the space in between stages in our lives as well as embracing fantasies of alternative dimensions as a means of escapism.” - Artist Statement Sasha Koozel Reibstein...

Perry Haas is a ceramic artist making functional pottery and focusing on wood-firing techniques. Drawing from a love for the wood-fired ceramic surface, Perry looks to anticipate the manner in which ash in the kiln will collect in different arrays across the convex and concave surfaces of his gestural clay forms. “I approach making with a childlike spirit of experimentation and exploration. My work stems from a love of the wood fired ceramic surface, particularly how it evokes many beautiful natural phenomena. Like imagining the way wind gathers and deposits leaves on a landscape according to changes in topography, I anticipate the manner in which ash will collect differently on the convex and concave surfaces of my gestural forms. These functional pots are developed as a place for this surface to exist and to be enjoyed as a part of our daily life.”—Haas Porcelain, Sculpture, Contemporary, Design, Glaze, Iron Particles, Closed Form

Sacred Dance II - nature-inspired, hand-shaped porcelain clay sculpture
By Paula Murray
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Artist Paula Murray’s work is rooted in her spiritual journey and expressed in the uniquely beautiful ceramics she creates. Sacred Dance is a series of porcelain vessels—the undulating curves of each formed using her own clay recipe. This elegant blush-coloured vessel has visible darker fine markings that add detail and depth to the piece. “Clay vessels have a long history and can be read as a metaphorical symbol of life, holding a sacred space.” Paula Murray She has received many honours and international awards and was elected to the RCA in 2006. Murray’s work has been gifted by the Canadian government to dignitaries such as US President George W. Bush and UN Secretary Kofi Annan.
