French 1940's Cabinet Mahogany and Leather attributed to Rousseau et Lardin
About the Item
Perfectly proportioned small French Art Deco living room cabinet/ bar cabinet made of mahogany and leather veneer with the best craftsmanship and probably designed by Rousseau et Lardin around 1940. The strictly geometrically designed cabinet has a sophisticated play of shadow gaps, offset elements and squares, transferring classical elements into modern, strict design of the 1940s. The front with four equally sized, symmetrically structured doors with leather fillings and a central brass plate. The body rests freely on a recessed base with terminating in brass feet.
The combination of leather or parchemin (parchment) with brass and elegant exotic veneer was popular with many important furniture designers such as Maxime Old, Jaques Adnet, Jean Pascaud, Jean Michel Frank. or Paul Dupré-Lafon.
Both in terms of style and craftsmanship with the very attractive combination of mahogany, leather and brass, this cabinet can be attributed to Rousseau & Lardin. But some of Paul Duprès-Lafon's designs could also be associated with this cabinet. Very good original, but finely restored condition.
