Vintage Egyptian Revival Handmade Wood Thebes Stool
Located in Topeka, KS
Fabulous vintage Egyptian Revival handmade wood Thebes stool. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The joints have been glued. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Early to Mid-20th Century.
We have a stool that will make you DROOL!!!! This is an AWESOME vintage Egyptian Revival handmade wood Thebes stool comprised of a lovely wood frame with lattice bracing under the curved plywood seat, straight legs, and stretchers on all four sides. Simple lines and a unique presence. So… Thebes stools have been around for quite some time!! As a matter of fact, one was discovered in the tomb of King Tutankhamum circa 1400 B.C.!! In the late 19th century, Liberty of London began producing the Egyptian-style stool in flexible-yet-durable plywood as a part of the store's Furnishing & Decorating Studio. Liberty continued manufacturing the stool until approximately 1919 and, since that time, designers have reproduced the style all over the world. I’d say they are here to stay!! As a piece of practical design, the Thebes stool functions as both a seat and an ottoman and will be wonderful in any room of your home! It is Egyptian Revival in style with an Arts & Crafts flair and it’s going to blend in beautifully with your décor! You could use it as is or throw a pillow on top. It’s very versatile and lightweight so it is easily moved from space to space. King Tutankhamum loved his Thebes stool enough to take it to his tomb…. Now, that’s a cool stool...

From Mappin & Webb site:
Mappin & Webb is a true British treasure with over 240 years of tradition and historical significance in the world of silver and fine jewellery. Renowned for combining timeless craftsmanship with superior quality and contemporary design, we have produced exquisite fine jewellery, elegant silverware, watches, glassware and the unique lifestyle accessories that have long been at the heart of affluent British society.
It’s a story that began in 1775, when Jonathan Mappin opened a workshop in Sheffield. His mission was to create the most beautifully crafted silverware for British society.
Over the immediate years that followed this would see the company expand internationally, receive Royal Warrants and commissions from Monarchs around the world, and become synonymous with excellence, craftsmanship and all things truly British.
The Early Years: A Family Partnership.
Within a year the first Mappin hallmark was recorded at the assay office and in 1780 Jonathan Mappin was given the Freedom of the Cutlers Company. The ‘Cutlers Company of Hallamshire’, to give it its full title, was incorporated in 1624 to provide jurisdiction over those making cutlery near Sheffield and to promote Sheffield as a place of expertise.

Egyptian Antique Bronze Seated Statue of Harpokrates
Located in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire
An interesting and unusual Egyptian bronze seated figure portraying the youthful god Harpokrates (Horus the child). The figure sits unclothed with legs bent and both arms resting by his sides. His face is indistinctly molded with a wide nose and with a sidelock of hair. He wears a Pschent crown. The figure, which is removable, has a later carved and fitted oak throne. The figure has an all over black patina. The figure does have some antique age although may be an Egyptian revival piece and would benefit from further research. We are therefore offering this as a later example and priced accordingly.
Harpokrates was one of the most popular deities in the Egyptian pantheon. He was the offspring...
