Isaia Mabellini was a visual poet, performer, explorer, filmmaker, editor, photographer, organizer: among the most active, unpredictable and explosive figures in contemporary artistic research in Italy and beyond. In 1963, he became interested in visual-poetic research, making his first contacts with the artists of Group 70. Employing techniques such as collage, assemblage, and emulsified canvas, he achieves striking works, which he uses as an instrument of political and cultural struggle. He is very active both as an editor and as an organizer. He created magazines, including Amodulo in 1968 and Lotta poetica in 1971, and publishing houses such as Edizioni Amodulo in 1969, SAR.MIC in 1972 and Factotum Art in 1977. He is the founder of groups such as the International Visual Poetry Group. From 1982 onward, Sarenco undertook numerous trips to Africa. From this moment on, the African continent becomes the protagonist of his artistic production. He opened an art gallery in Malindi, where he also published collections of poetry and audiovisual poetry under the label Malindi dias, Malindi and M.A.L.I.N.D.I, and organized major exhibitions, such as the First Malindi Biennial of Contemporary Art. He wrote his first film subject in 1968, shot it under the title Collage in 1984. The following year he is invited to present it at the Venice Film Festival. Many other feature films followed. He regularly participates in international art exhibitions, including four editions of the Venice Biennale (1972, 1986, 2001, 2011), Documenta Kassel (1972), Seville Biennale (2004, together with Cattelan).
