"Culture Carriers Stamp Out Art", (Hand Signed) British Pop Art historic event
By Derek Boshier
Located in New York, NY
DEREK BOSHIER
"Culture Carriers Stamp Out Art", (Hand Signed), from the Collection of Art Critic Anthony Haden-Guest, 1971
Lithograph mounted on franked envelope of wove paper (Hand Signed)
6 × 9 in
15.2 × 22.9 cm
Limited Edition of 250; hand signed and numbered 24/250
Signed in ink lower left of the lithographic stamp affixed to the envelope, and hand numbered 24/250.
From the series The Post Office Worker's Strike Commemoration Stamps
Unframed
The artwork consists not just of the signed, limited edition Boshier postage "stamp", but also the franked envelope, which it is affixed to, with the stamps as described above. The entire mixed media piece is far more desirable than the stamp alone.
As a consequence of the prolonged strike by the Royal Mail postal workers in the United Kingdom, Derek Boshier along with a group of British artists including Allen Jones, David Hockney, Christopher Logue, Eduardo Paolozzi and Richard Hamilton, published ''Culture Carriers Stamp Out Art''to raise funds for the striking workers. The "stamps" were published in a limited edition of only 250, with Derek Boshier signing each by hand in black ink with his initials on the lower left. This particular stamp is also numbered 24/250. The stamp itself measures 3.25 by 2.75 inches, and it is affixed to a franked (postmarked) envelope which measures 6 inches by 9 inches, bearing the stamped text "Culture Carriers 23 Feb 1971" on the top left, and the stamp "CULTURE CARRIERS STAMP OUT ART" on the lower left (front). and the stamp "STRIKE ISSUE" lower right front of the envelope. Very desirable as an ensemble. these were known as The Post Office Worker's Strike Commemoration Stamps. This particular piece has superb and interesting provenance, as it came from the private collection of the American art critic Anthony Haden-Guest. As additional provenance, we will furnish the buyer with a xerox copy of the receipt from Flair Magazine...

Drawing of a Boy / Butterflies
By Andy Warhol
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is maybe the most influential and valuable American artist of the 20th century. While he is renowned for his iconic Pop art portraits, Caviar20 has been exploring and offering his inimitable works on paper from the 1950's. We believe this is an important, and for the time being, accessible and under-appreciated part of his legacy.
During the 1950's Warhol established his reputation in New York City as an illustrator for numerous fashion publications and businesses. His succinct line drawings were modern and gentle, realized with a brave yet delicate gay sensibility.
The images he created "off the clock" from his fashion commissions were romantic sketches, day-dreams of crushes, hunks and friends. His 1956 exhibition, Studies for a Boy Book...

Keith Haring drawing 1982 (Keith Haring 1982 drawing)
By Keith Haring
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Keith Haring drawing Japan 1982:
Keith Haring executed this rare double drawing during his key breakout year of 1982 in collaboration with the historic Japanese pop cultural publication: Popeye.
The work emanates from the personal collection of a Popeye magazine editor, with the final versions published in the January 10, 1983 edition of the magazine (included with the purchase of this work). Corresponding to such, are a series of hand-written publishing instructions by Haring & a bold well-preserved signature dated November 1982 along the right margin(s).
This visually rich 1982 drawing is defined by Haring dancing figures, lizards, televisions, a three-eyed face - visual elements at the core of what would define Keith Haring’s style for years to come.
Further details as follows:
Medium: Felt-tip pen and ink on wove paper, 1982.
Dimensions: 14x17 inches.
Good overall vintage condition; contains two folded flaps outside drawings; softened vertical creases in flaps; minor signs of handling; minor edge wear at top; pale toning and scattered spotting with some scattered, small mild staining; adhesive/tape residue on the verso.
Signed, titled and dated: "82 Nov. 12" in felt-tip pen and ink, right edge recto, with Haring's notes in ball-point pen and ink, lower right recto.
Provenance: Popeye magazine editor, Tokyo; gifted to a private collection, Tokyo; Swann Auction galleries, New York. Accompanied by a letter of provenance.
Literature/References:
Published in the January 10, 1983 edition of Popeye: issue number 142, pages 75 & 97, respectively. This publication is included with the purchase of this work.
“Drawing is making a mark and cutting into space and just finding something that didn’t exist before. It’s pure creation in its simplest form.” — Keith Haring

Original Animation Cel from PIERRE, "I DONT CARE" (CBS 1970s)
By Maurice Sendak
Located in Surfside, FL
An original animation cel drawing from the CBS-TV broadcast of Sendak's "REALLY ROSIE" - (this was the first time "Rosie" appeared anywhere other than Sendak's original book) - this cel is from the PIERRE, "I DONT CARE" sequence. this is the original vintage acetate drawing/painting from the 1970s. it is from the estate of the film producer Dan Hunn. I cannot say definitively that it is by Maurice Sendak's hand. He definitely worked on this project and the provenance is impeccable. They are quite rare and unusual.
Maurice Bernard Sendak, June 10, 1928-2012
Dubbed by one critic “the Picasso of children’s literature” and once addressed by former President Bill Clinton as “the King of Dreams,” Maurice Sendak illustrated nearly a hundred picture books throughout a career that spanned more than 60 years. Some of his best known books include Chicken Soup...
