Eric Richard Sturgeon Art
Eric Richard Sturgeon was born in 1920 in Somerset. His love and talent for art developed during his school years and he showed great promise and flair for the arts. In 1940, Sturgeon enlisted with the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, he was posted to North Africa where he was captured and transported to Italy and then onto Germany. Sturgeon tried to relieve the harsh conditions faced by POWs by sketching portraits of his fellow prisoners. At the end of the war, Sturgeon studied at Taunton Art College, which led him into a career as a commercial artist. In 1970, Sturgeon held his first one-man exhibition in a Langport gallery. He passed away in 1999.
