Andy Warhol "America" Fiorucci Press Release 1986: Original press release for a 1986 Andy Warhol Valentine's Day book signing, at the legendary New York cultural institution: Fiorucci. A one day event in which Warhol signed his "America" book for 350 lucky fans. In conjunction with this Warhol America event, Fiorucci sold Warhol inspired T-shirts, accessories and photos. A rare & much desirable piece of Andy Warhol ephemera produced just one year before the artist's death in February of 1987. Typed letter; 1986. 8.5 x 11 inches. Fold-lines as issued for mailing. Located in East Midtown and attracting everyone from Gloria Vanderbilt to Madonna, it was as much a place to experience culture and art during the height of the mid 70s and early 80s as it was a store – with everyone from Keith Haring to Andy Warhol hosting events at the location. Intrinsically linked to the glamorous days of disco, the brand was even name checked in Sister Sledge's “He’s The Greatest Dancer” alongside Gucci and Halston. Signed lower right “Henningsen” and dated 1881 at reverse. Attributed by Erik Ludvig Henningsen (1855 - 1930) was a Danish painter and illustrator. Masterly painted genre scene “testing grandfather’s pipe” depicting lively domestic moment. The little prankster wants to be like his grandfather, but how can he not try his grandfather’s pipe, which he loves so much and does not let go of even in his sleep. The curious and brave sly man, despite the consequences, took off his shoes to approach quietly... One can imagine his disappointment and emotions after he accomplished what he had planned... The boy's faithful friend, a small dog, looks at all this with interest and curiosity. Loved and admired for his talent to realistically portray life and tell a story at the same time, Henningsen took great pride to never include any personal feelings or philosophy, but to stay neutral to the subject matter for whichever painting he was doing.
