Katharine Morling Art

British

Katharine Morling is an award-winning artist working in the medium of ceramics. She set up her studio in 2003 and has since gained international acclaim for her work. Her ceramic sculptures have been shown internationally at Bergdorf Goodman in New York, Liberty’s London, Miami, Italy, Kuwait, Algiers, Germany and France. She has also had solo exhibitions in Sweden, Netherlands and throughout the UK. In 2016, she exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition for the third time. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2009, she was awarded first prize at the 2010 World Crafts Council Triennial in Belgium. Morling also represented the UK at the 2010 European Ceramic Context in Denmark. For COLLECT 2011, she showed a new installation Out of the House in the Project Space of the Saatchi Gallery. Other projects include creating a large wall mounted installation for the new children’s ward commissioned by the Royal London Hospital through Vital Arts and a contemporary dance piece at the Royal Opera House inspired by her work. As part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, Morling was invited to create an artist’s response to the Staffordshire Hoard. She designed 10 large ceramic sculptures of mythological godlike creatures, that represent the deities that the Anglo Saxons might have worshiped. ‘Morling and the Hoard’ is now on permanent display alongside the Staffordshire Hoard at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent. In 2015, she completed ‘Gardens Edge’ her third large scale installation, which included five life size figures and a woodland scene. In 2012, Morling created a large wall mounted installation commissioned by the Royal London Hospital through Vital Arts, for the new children’s ward and the New Dance Commissions at the Royal Opera House created a piece inspired by her work. Artist Statement "My work can be described as 3 dimensional drawings. Each piece, on the surface, an inanimate object, has been given layers of emotion and embedded with stories, which are open for interpretation. The works I create are pieces of narrative in my progressing story, one piece leads to the next and I work very instinctually. My work represents my inner searching, shown outwardly in domestic and uncanny scenes. I have to trust and believe that I can communicate through this medium. The works that I make are pieces of narrative, which are a progressing story leading on from my last works, the journey continues. My work is the physical manifestation of my inner searching shown outwardly in domestic and uncanny scenes."

"RAKU RED AND WHITE", wheel formed white glaze, copper red, gold leaf, sculpture
By Andrew Cornell Robinson
Located in Toronto, Ontario
"RAKU RED AND WHITE", 2019, in wheel-formed white glaze with copper red blush, sprig, stamp, gold leaf and raku fired with kintsuji gold by artist Andrew Cornell Robinson, is one of a series of sculptural objects that include ceramic, glass and mixed media grottoes and containers. A project exploring the vessel form and notions of gratitude, plenty, poverty in material or humanity. Robinson has led artists to explore tableware as sculptural form – "Changing attitudes and emerging social behaviors in food preparation and the social and cultural rituals of eating have lead to changes in the way tableware is made and used." Andrew Cornell Robinson is an interdisciplinary artist working across media (ceramics, textiles, painting, prints, etc.). His work is influenced by collaborative craft communities, traditions, and the performative qualities of cultural production. The underlying ideas exploring identity, histories, rituals, and power in his work aim to create a space for intimate experiences and open narratives. He studied ceramic sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art and the Maryland Institute College of Art where he received a BFA. He was awarded an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, where he became interested in the intersection of memory, identity, politics, and power. He has been featured in many publications including Sculpture Magazine, Huffington Post, Hyperallergic, Art Info, et al. He has participated in curatorial and research projects and recently was a participating artist in Debtfair a project in the Whitney Biennial. Andrew has also worked on collaborations with designers such as Donna Karan’s Urban Zen project where his work in ceramics led to workshops with artisans in Haiti and the creation of a ceramic studio in Port-au-Prince. He is currently working with The Powerhouse Arts Workshop and their design team from the Pritzker-prize winning architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron in the design and development of a contemporary industrial fabrication center established to serve the working needs of artists in New York City. He is currently a member of the faculty at Parsons School of Design and Greenwich House Pottery in New York City. His work has been presented extensively throughout the world with the Anna Kustera Gallery, David & Schweitzer Contemporary, Christopher Stout...

Lions Head Big Game Trophy Natural Sisal Fiber Sculpture Lion Anne Andersson Art
Located in Surfside, FL
Anne Andersson Sisal fiber wall sculpture Lion's Head (# 13) Hand signed to verso Dated 2009. Measures approx. 22 1/2" height x 14 1/2" width x 10" depth Her sculptures are made of natural sisal Fiber from an agave and meticulously hand painted. The eyes are hand blown glass. Anne Andersson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a great desire to explore Nature and a Passion for Art. She received a degree in science in 1981 from Kjällbergska University in Gothenburg and a degree in Art from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. She now works from her studio in St. Petersburg, Florida as a Sculptor, illustrator and painter. Her work calls to mind the animalia artworks of Henri Maik and Gustavo Novoa. Anne Andersson's artwork serves as an homage to our planet’s charismatic and rare wild animals. Inspired by the majesty and beauty of exotic wildlife, and motivated by an urge to preserve them, Anne’s astonishingly realistic life-size sculptures capture the experience of seeing these animals up close without exploiting them. Her sculpted work using natural materials and clay, provides a humane alternative to big game trophy hunting and taxidermy. She combines her talents in painting, tapestry weaving and illustration with an intuitive attention to the smallest detail to truly bring her sculptures to life. She has created lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, bobcats, lynxes, pumas, elephants, rhinos, bears, water buffalo, bison, moose, wolves, coyotes and more—but she feels closest to the big cats. Anne graduated with honors at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1989. It was then that she met Don Moore...
