Kanshitsu Bachi Stunning Color Lacquer Bowl
Located in Fukuoka, JP
A remarkable red-colored signed lacquer worker bowl crafted using the traditional Japanese lacquer technique Kanshitsu bachi. The Japanese lacquer technique, also known as urushi, is a time-honored process that involves coating objects with layers of sap derived from the lacquer tree. The lacquer dries to form a durable and glossy finish that is resistant to water, heat, and acids, making it a valuable addition to any collection. The stunning red color of this worker bowl is sure to make it a standout piece in any interior design, while its signed lacquer and skilled craftsmanship showcase its unique value as a collector's item. Investing in this Kanshitsu bachi lacquer worker bowl is a wise choice for both collectors and those looking for a unique and elegant item to add to their interior. Its rich cultural and artistic history, combined with its exceptional beauty and durability, makes it an investment that will be cherished for years to come. Don't miss this opportunity to own a piece of Japanese lacquer art and add a touch of sophistication to your home or collection. *Kanshitsu bachi. Kanshitsu is a Japanese lacquerware technique that involves the use of hemp cloth, linen or paper to create a base layer, which is then coated with multiple layers of lacquer. The result is a highly durable and decorative surface that can be shaped and carved into various forms. "Bachi" can refer to the wooden bowl used for mixing pigments in the process of making lacquerware, so it's possible that Kanshitsu bachi refers to an artist who specializes in lacquerware bowls...

Japanese Lacquer Box with Fine Maki-e Decoration Meiji Period
Located in Atlanta, GA
A lacquered wood box with lid from Japan circa 19th century Meiji Period. The finely decorated box was used to store paper slips and small documents on the desk. It is overall finished with black lacquer (kuro) with sparse Mura-Nashiji effect outside and on the top surface of the lid, there are three Komainu, (sometimes known as Shishi or Japanese lions) frolicking and forming a circle in lively motion. Komainu are auspicious animals in Japanese cultures in both Shinto and Buddhism tradition. Originally from China, these animals symbolizes guardians to ward off evil spirits. Hiramaki-e was used in combination with carving and combing to render the lions with various surface textures. A gilt border with an slight angle was given to the lid and even the thin band is decorated with miniature floral scrolls. The interior of the box was finished in a dense nashiji. Underneath the lid, a cluster of peonies open lavishly by two gentle mounts. Takamaki-e (high relief) in both gold and silver were...

Korean Lacquer Mother of Pearl Inlay Cigarette Box, 1930's, Korea
Located in Austin, TX
A delightful small Korean black lacquer and inlaid mother of pearl "longevity" cigarette box, circa 1930's, Korea. The small vertical rectangular box crafted of black lacquer and inlaid with fine, highly iridescent mother of pearl, and topped with a fitted cover. The interior lacquered vermillion red. The design on this small is related to longevity. One side features a large gnarled pine tree sheltering a pair of elegant deer munching on yeongji. Pine and deer are symbols of longevity. Yeongji, known as lingzhi in China, or reishi in Japan, is known as the Fungus of Immortality. The opposite side features a pair of swimming turtles and a pair of cranes flying overhead. Again, both cranes and turtles are symbols of long life. One of the turtles in this case seems to be a Japanese minogame...
