Vintage Japanese Gauze Kimono with Embroidery Modern Design
About the Item
A Japanese formal Kimono made with a very fine black linen gauze augmented with applied modern circle pattern. The garment was hand-stitched and dated to circa 1930-50s. The black gauze is of a very fine material and nearly see through. White, gray (imbued with silver sparkling accent) and red circles were resistant dyed first, then the edges were applied with hand-stitches embroidery to create a subtle but distinct blurring effect. The lapel was lined with white silk underneath and the inner seam was finished in black satin. The super fine quality indicates that the garment was likely intended to be a couture piece for a special occasion. The bold and sparse circles contrast strikingly with the black background, making this kimono appear like a modern art piece.
The kimono can be worn as a bespoken fashion piece nearly couture quality, or simply used as a modern wall hanging. It measures 50"w x 60"h, as displayed in the pictures.
