Le hameau de la Reine - ceramic decorative basket

About the Item

This decorative centerpiece is inspired by Marie Antoinette bucolic lifestyle in her hamlet near Versailles castle, built as a rousseauist fantasy in 1784 to escape court life. Its shape is a loose interpretation of the classical basket weaving techniques and a nod to the 'Rocaille' esthetic. Coarse, grogged stoneware, pinched and glazed in sand matte colour. Decorative use only - please refer to the last picture to check the grog size. 2022 /// Juliette Teste French, 1986, lives and works in Paris, France. Teste’s work focuses on the visual surprise born from collages between contemporary culture, and references to ancient worlds. Often leading to meditative, or theatrically narrative pieces, her self-taught technique combined with a keen eye for colours allows her instinctive and playful approach. Teste works from photographic sources - museum catalogs or paintings. These are a starting point, then the piece becomes a instinctive mash-up of historical influences and personal fantasy.
