Ikebana Gold Vase

About the Item

Ikebana vase is made to hold a few stems with a kenzan, the Japanese classic ikebana tool. It is a play with scales and proportions - the inside forms a kind of narrow bowl in which the kenzan can nest in. The use of gold is typical of Teste’s work - it is confident in gesture and generous, treated like a free-handed painted decor instead of a precious adornment. Matte powder pink and gold luster in third fire Decorative use 2022 /// Juliette Teste French, 1986, lives and works in Paris, France. Teste’s work focuses on the visual surprise born from collages between contemporary culture, and references to ancient worlds. Often leading to meditative, or theatrically narrative pieces, her self-taught technique combined with a keen eye for colours allows her instinctive and playful approach. Teste works from photographic sources - museum catalogs or paintings. These are a starting point, then the piece becomes a instinctive mash-up of historical influences and personal fantasy.
