A Very Good & Large Art Deco Sterling Silver Stamp Box, Hallmarked London 1913
About the Item
A very handsome & substantial early 20th century Art Deco sterling silver stamp box. The case richly decorated overall with striking basket-weave & herringbone machined motifs, the top fitted with two lidded compartments with gilded interiors, the smaller compartment divided into three segments for stamps, the larger compartment with a crescent shaped well.
The exterior of the case and the interiors of both lids bear impressed London hallmarks with date letter for 1913 and makers marks for noted London silversmith William Hornby.
The overall weight (including the weighted wooden base) weighs 223 grams or 7.16 troy ounces.
