Blue, Black and White Crackle-Surfaced Ceramic Sphere, Hand Built Sculpture
About the Item
Blue, black and white ceramic sphere. This 3-inch piece is coated in many layers of "Terra Sigillata" a liquid clay that has been used in ceramics around the world for centuries. Here, it crackles in the first firing and is washed with colored oxides to accentuate the crackle lines before the second firing. Soft to the touch (a wonderful inherent quality of "Terra Sigillata") it is an object of contemplation, amusement, and weight. It is not glazed.
Dry sponge to clean, do not submerge.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics
Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
