Industrial More Dining and Entertaining

INDUSTRIAL STYLE

Industrial floor lamps, bar stools, desks and other industrial-style furnishings have experienced a resurgence in popularity with the rise of interest in minimalist design.

It's a look that celebrates the past even as it suggests vigor, productivity and brawn. The newly chic industrial style of decor repurposes the simple, sturdy furniture of an earlier world of commerce — brushed-metal storage cabinets and display shelves, task lamps and pendant lights with enameled shades, work tables with worn wooden tops and cast-iron bases — and couples them with aesthetic touches emblematic of energy and optimism, from bright upholstery fabrics to flowers.

The rise in prominence of the industrial style has come hand-in-hand with the residential repurposing of former manufacturing and warehouse districts throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. In many loft apartments created in shuttered factories, the architectural envelope has been left intact.

Industrial-style interiors feature elements like raw brick walls, exposed steel beams and oak floors whose history is written in every pit and gouge. Iron and glass transom windows give definition and interest to small kitchen areas anchored by kitchen islands made of marble, steel and brass, while taxidermy or vintage neon signs serve as wall art in living rooms dotted with leather club chairs. Patina is the keynote to a decor in sync with such surroundings.

On 1stDibs you will find industrial furniture designs that wear their age beautifully — and were built to last.

Set of 12 Porcelain Shells by Giovanni Garibaldi for Richard-Ginori
Located in New York, NY
In the 1920s Gio Ponti, who defined 20th century Italian design, was the art director of Richard-Ginori, a venerable porcelain company established in the 18th century. When Ponti moved on in 1930, his protégé Giovanni Gariboldi, who also designed furniture and interiors, filled the vacated position. It would seem that Gariboldi found his model for these shell-shaped dishes in nature, but this is not the case. Rather, he channeled the essence of “shellness," and endowed his design with the faux verisimilitude of delicate ribbing along the scalloped edge. Yet he had them glazed in improbable candy-like pastel colors of pink, yellow, and blue. Originally used principally as ashtrays, no doubt, they could also be put to use as serving dishes for nuts and candies, or as decorative tabletop objects...

Vintage Aluminum Troughs Planters Sinks Containers Vessels 8 Sold Separately
Located in Topeka, KS
Cool vintage aluminum troughs, planters, sinks, containers, or vessels with bail handles. They are all in wonderful vintage condition with lots of nice patina. These do not look new nor are they meant to look new. They have awesome dings dents and marks that can only come with age and use! Please see photos, circa 20th century. They are priced separately, and you may purchase 1 up to 8. These are so dang cool and unusual!!!! What they were originally we believe were food troughs at the USVA hospitals. Or possibly…garbage troughs?? Rectangular and made of aluminum with tapered sides and flat bottoms plus very handy bail handles on either end. They are so very versatile, and their uses are nearly endless. Some of the things we have used them for over the years (in our design projects while we were interior designers before we retired to sell our wares) are many. We used them as planters and window boxes; containers for food and dry goods on a lower shelf in a huge kitchen island; as a centerpiece on a long gorgeous farmhouse table; as a vessel bar sink...
