Silver framed Medallion, George Washington by Bert Bentley, Wedgwood, circa 1925

About the Item

A portrait medallion of George Washington, in pale blue jasperware, and set in a quality frame of silver, reeded and cross-banded. Decorated by Bert Bentley, one of the best of the early 20th century decorators at Wedgwood. This profile portrait of George Washington is derived from a 1789 medal by Pierre Simon Benjamin Duvivier that commemorates the commander-in-chief's retaking of Boston from the British in March of 1776.
