About the Item
A set of four sterling silver Traprain Dishes or Tastevins, replicated from a design found in the Roman silver hoard at Traprain Law, Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1919. The dishes have an egg-shaped bowl on a foot, with a handle ending in a mythical creature or bird's head holding a sphere.
They are hallmarked by the Edinburgh assay office, dated 1937, and carry the maker's mark 'B&S' for Brook & Son.
Assay: .925 sterling silver.
Period: Mid 20th Century.
Date: 1937.
