About the Item
The place were we usually run into this model Tynell lamp is in the kitchen.
Please note this is in copper and not brass, the metal most used by Tynell. That adds a warm touch to it, especially in cold Finland 🙂.
We do run into different models of copper Tynell lamps here and there. This is a perfect example of why Finnish design so well known world wide. Nothing extra or irrelevant added, keep it simple and beautiful.

Paavo Tynell
Paavo Tynell, who was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1890, started his career as a tin- and blacksmith at the company Kory Oy. Simultaneously, he studied at the Helsinki University of Industrial Arts, from which he graduated as a master craftsman in 1913. In 1918, Tynell co-founded the metalwork and lighting company Oy Taito Ab. At first, the company focused mostly on interior and exterior metalwork, such as statues and railings. Later, during the 1930s, Taito also began producing lamps for the lighting sector. Both Alvar Aalto and Kaj Franck would design works for the company.

This model is also known as the "horse shoe" due to the horseshoe resembling foot and other features making it resemble Thoroughbreds (see archive pictures) In a 1950s edition of the Finland House Lighting catalouge this lamp was nicknamed Thoroughbred. Now if you think that was because of the horseshoe-foot, think again. The Thoroughbred is a hot-blooded racing horse breed known for its agility and their physical features include a well-chiseled head, a long slim neck and a lean body.
