Faux Bois Oval Wall Tray or Table Mirror in Brown and Gold, circa 1940s
About the Item
Faux bois oval wall mirror with details of wood vines sheaves of wheat and leaves. This piece is by the Syroco Wood Company from New York and estimated to be from the 1940s.
This beautiful and rare find features lovely curled vines and leaves which surround an oval-shaped mirror. The frame is in a mix of brown and gold. Some of the frame designs slightly cover the mirror at the edges making for a wonderful Classic touch.
At the back, a redwood backing attaches to the frame. The Syroco Wood stamp is to the center. This piece appears to have possibly been affixed with a frame stand, much like a photo frame would. Perhaps it was used as a vanity mirror on a dressing table? However, this has been removed. We would love to see this piece used in a number of ways:
1.) As a wall mirror. This faux bois mirror would look incredible added to another grouping of mirrors. The details are incredible and would add interest and contrast to a grouping of other mirrors.
2.) Call us crazy, but we love the idea of using mirrors as trays. This piece could function as a table tray when laid flat on a table to display items on a vanity such as perfumes, or cosmetics. Again, another way to add a touch of glitz.
3.) This piece could also be adapted to serve as a standing mirror for a tabletop. A lovely way to add a little traditional charm to a vanity or bathroom.
