Contemporary Floating Platfrom Bed in White Oak by Boyd & Allister
About the Item
This contemporary floating platform bed in White Oak was originally designed for my own bedroom. It is priced and pictured as a queen sized bed in both White Oak and Walnut. It is available in a variety of woods and all sizes as well as being made with a headboard in a separate listing. The entire visible structure of the bed is solid White Oak, the slats are solid Poplar. Both the under supports as well as the front corners of the bed are constructed with bridle joints. These joints are not only structurally exceptionally strong they are also visually pleasing by contrasting the endgrain against the face grain. The joint draws attention to the hand work involved in making the bed. We bring additional attention to the front corners by securing the joint with a pin detail in the contrasting wood of figured Maple (see detail photo). The frame is lifted 8” off of the ground by the ‘legs’ and then the solid poplar slats sit on top of those. This puts the bottom of the mattress approximately 10” off of the ground. The platform for these beds is build as a solid piece with the ‘legs’ disassembling. Please make sure if ordering a king that a platform measuring 80”x84”x2.75” will be able to get to your bedroom. Boyd & Allister is a custom furniture studio located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We have been hand making furniture for designers and architects around the country since 2010. We custom make each piece using traditional joinery methods and hand select each piece of wood. We source our wood from small sawyers around the country who bring the same level of care to their craft as we bring to ours. Many of our designs are inspired by mid century masters; timeless with clean lines, allowing the beauty of the wood to shine.
