Four Poster Contemporary Pencil Post Bed by Boyd & Allister
About the Item
This four poster contemporary pencil post bed was one of the original pieces that we made in our studio. Boyd & Allister got its start over 12 years ago making a line of beds for a local organic mattress shop. This design uses traditional joinery and clean lines, allowing the beauty of the wood and elegant shape to be its defining characteristics. The bed is pictured in cherry and walnut. We make this design in a variety of different domestic hardwoods. The rails between the headboard and footboard disassemble with a traditional stub tenon and bed bolt construction. There are detailed pictures of the cap, made to resemble a through tenon, on the front legs which pivots to reveal the bed bolt. Each bed comes with a set of 8 slats that are constructed with reinforced hardwood ribs that make the slats rigid and prevent flexing. The top of the post is 78” tall and the headboard is 17-18” tall (as it has a 1” curve cut on the top edge). The headboard is set for a 10” mattress to come to the bottom of the headboard (forgive the pictures as we only had a thin futon available for the photo shoot). It is not a problem to alter the height of the headboard to accommodate a thicker mattress. One of the pictures shows the addition of top stretchers on the head and footboards for a canopy which can be included for an upcharge. There is 16” below the rails which puts the top of a 10” mattress approximately 28” from the floor. Finish is a natural oil and wax.

Boyd & Allister is a custom furniture studio located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We have been hand making furniture for designers and architects around the country since 2010. We custom make each piece using traditional joinery methods and hand select each piece of wood. We source our wood from small sawyers around the country who bring the same level of care to their craft as we bring to ours. Many of our designs are inspired by mid century masters; timeless with clean lines, allowing the beauty of the wood to shine.
This bed is pictured in both walnut and cherry in a queen size. It is available in all sizes including custom sizing (please inquire for pricing in other sizes) It is also available in Walnut, Cherry, White Oak, Maple or Ash.
