Set of three rare lounge chairs by Cho Kiang Ie and Theo Ruth for Artifort

About the Item

Designed in collaboration with Theo Ruth, Frans Bergs & Jacques Weijenbergh. Model 158F. Produced for only a very short period (1958 - 1961). Important chairs designed by Theo Ruth (head design of Artifort in the 1950s) and Cho Kiang Ie (Ruth's successor as head design) these illustrate the transition from these two iconic designers and a new era of design for Artifort. Minimalist design at its best. The series is called "Square line" and the name says it all. Very straight forward and clean design but at the same time the comfort has need been set aside. The seats actually have "built in" cushions for a soft and comfortable seating position. Hard to find pieces especially as a set of three. The inner frames were restored. New foam, new fabric and new cushions. Al done by a professional reupholsterer with great eye for detail. The bases have been cleaned and kept original. They have signs of surface rust and loss of the nickel plating.
