High Sierras Log Cabin Lodge with Poppies Original Painting by J. Bond Francisco
Located in Soquel, CA
High Sierras Log Cabin Lodge Original Oil Painting by J. Bond Francisco Early 1900s era impasto painting of the High Sierras and a Log Cabin Lodge by California artist John Bond Francisco (American, 1863 - 1931). Well painted landscape of early 20th century California High Sierras will lush green grass and California Poppies. Signed lower right "J. bond Francisco." Presented in a newer, custom, giltwood frame. Image, 12"H x 16"W Frame 23.5"H 19.5"W x 1.25"D John Bond Francisco was born in Cincinnati, OH on Dec. 14, 1863. From an early age Francisco was drawn to both music and art. He studied the violin with Hermann Eckhardt and painting at the Cincinnati Art Academy for several years. He arrived in Los Angeles in 1887 and was so taken with the beauty of the place, he opted to make it his home. He soon continued his studies in Berlin, Munich, and in Paris at Académies Julian and Colarossi under Courtois, Bouguereau, and Robert-Fleury. While in Europe he studied the violin in the morning hours and painting in the afternoon. Upon returning to Los Angeles in 1892, he married and built a home at 1401 Albany Street where he lived for the rest of his life. Combining an art and music career, he helped form the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra in 1897 and served as their first concert master. While teaching music and art at his studio, he made painting excursions into the surrounding countryside, often with his pupil Elmer Wachtel. He combined his Munich technique with that of the Barbizon's influence to produce paintings of California deserts and mountains that held dramatic light and shade contrasts. Later his palette brightened and he leaned more toward Impressionism. Francisco's studio in the Blanchard Bldg and his home were a mecca for both painters and musicians until his death on Jan. 8, 1931. Member: American Artists Club (Munich); Calif. "Come Out and Play", Child Portrait, Chicago transport, Acrylic on found wood
Located in Philadelphia, PA
"Come Out and Play" is an original piece by Qiaira Riley made from acrylic paint on found wood. This piece measures measures 24"h x 14"w unframed. "Inspired by the changing visual landscape of my hometown of Chicago, I created these works to explore how the gentrification of the south-side disrupts intimate, private memories associated with public spaces in the name of urban "renewal," even creating commodifiable opportunities to make community memories public and profitable, yet not sacred. I was attending a suburban private liberal arts college; many classmates often seemed obsessed with fantastical, cheap narratives about my community and the folks in it that deeply contrasted the memories of love and care I had grown up with. These works remember and reclaim these spaces while showing off my favorite public treasures, sights, and delicacies. There are also odes to the sweet parts of my adolescence that I hope urban development will not shift: running around the city with my father, who has worked for the Chicago Park District for over 25 years, my mom getting me a 6 piece from Harold's Chicken whenever I got a good report card, or stopping by Zberry, the city's first black-woman owned froyo shop to get a treat after school. I moved to Philadelphia that same year with just two suitcases, my art supplies storage...

"Don't Cry Long" Abstracted and Distorted Self-Portrait, One Crying Eye
Located in Detroit, MI
"Don't Cry Long" is a self-portrait of the artist and an unusual one at that in which the artist portrays herself shedding tears. Perhaps it is an expression of some grief experienced by Ms. Woodlock, but it also admonishes her to not "Cry Long" while at the same time poking fun because of her elongated face and the one lone "long" tear tracing a pattern down her face. In addition to self-portraits, Ethelyn painted commissioned portraits. In this painting her head is cocked and her famous bangs hang down her forehead. Compare two self-portraits, “Up From Under”, and “M’Eyes" to "Don't Cry Long." The major differences are the close facial view and the brilliant blood red paint that fills the entire canvas. This painting is included in the book, "Dreams Have Wings: An Artist's Journey into Magic and Mystery" printed in the United States, 1985. She describes "Don't Cry Long" as showing how funny looking we are, if we cry too long. Ethelyn Woodlock...

"AUF WIEDERSEHEN" Abstract Painting 24" x 18" inch by Isaac Pelayo
Located in Culver City, CA
"AUF WIEDERSEHEN" Abstract Painting 24" x 18" inch by Isaac Pelayo Medium: Oil, oil stick, and aerosol on wood ABOUT THE ARTIST: Isaac Pelayo is a head on crash collision between The Renaissance and Street Art. In a household where constant turmoil and violence were more apparent than most a young Pelayo met escape and peace within the confines of himself and his own creativity. Hispanic born in the heavy beating heart of Los Angeles on the seventh day of June 1996. Pelayo was caught in the crossfires of everything that surrounded him but art served as his only guidance. After dropping out of college Pelayo turned from his hyperrealistic pencil portraits to oil painting where his passions grew more immensely. As of today Pelayo’s work is most influenced and fueled by the crème de la crème of old master painters like Da Vinci, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Velazquez as well as graffiti artists such as RETNA, Shepard Fairey, and EL MAC. In 2017 his work caught the attention and landed in the firm grasp of renown rapper and collector Alvin “Westside Gunn” Worthy. He has created several album covers and artworks for the Buffalo rap moguls music label Griselda Records including his personal collection. Pelayo’s paintings are widely recognized and sought out from all over the globe. His collectors include Sean “Diddy” Combs, Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher, Jeff Hamilton, Shepard Fairey, Jaysse Lopez, and Everlast of House of Pain...

Evening Twilight on River 1899 Scandinavian Oil Painting on Canvas Signed Framed
Located in Stockholm, SE
Evening twilight on the river - is a painting in which the light of a beautiful sunset merges with the mysterious waters of the river. This artwork immerses us in the atmosphere of a quiet and calm evening, when the sun is already setting behind the horizon, and the sky is painted in various shades of orange, yellow and pink. The trees, slowly plunging into darkness, add a special mystery to this landscape. The reflection of heavenly light and trees on the surface of the river creates a feeling of soft tonal shimmer. A lonely house...

Portrait of Old Woman 1893 by Famous Russian Master Oil Painting on Canvas Frame
Located in Stockholm, SE
Attributed by Nikolay Alekseyevich Kasatkin (1859 - 1930). In this touching artwork, the artist perfectly conveyed the character of the old woman, who has seen a lot in her life. The hands, tired out and riddled with veins, lie helplessly on the knees. Her slouched body tells us about the load of years lived. The painter skillfully conveys a sense of wisdom, kindness, and humility through her wrinkled face and detached gaze. The painting exudes warmth with a subtle touch of sadness and reflection on a life lived. Thanks to moderately contrasting colors, the portrait comes to life and shows us the depth of the artist's intention. Kasatkin not only continued the traditions of the best masters of portraiture in Russia in the 19th century, but also introduced new principles into it. He sought to display on canvas not only the external features of a person, but also to demonstrate his spiritual world. Antique oil painting on canvas, signed bottom left, framed. Size app.: 68.5 x 52.3 cm (roughly 27 x 20.6 in), frame is 80.5 x 63.5 cm (roughly 31.7 x 25 in). Very good condition, very well preserved recently conserved condition with minimal wear (notice few micro losses here and there). Please study good resolution images for cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 5.4 kg is going to measure 8 kg packed for shipment. Nikolay Alekseyevich Kasatkin (1859 - 1930) was a Russian painter, considered to be one of the founders of Social Realism in Russia. From 1873 to 1883 he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture with Vasily Perov and Illarion Pryanishnikov. Upon graduating, he received a medal for his painting "Beggars at the Church Door". In 1891, he began exhibiting with the Peredvizhniki and, from 1894 to 1917, was a teacher at his alma mater. For thirty years, beginning in 1883, he worked with Ivan Sytin, providing illustrations for his popular almanac/calendars and teaching lithography. He also contributed The Great Reform, an encyclopedia that celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Emancipation (1861), and a collection called "Russian History in Pictures". In 1903, he became a member of the Imperial Academy of Arts. He participated in the Exposition Universelle (1900), where he won a silver medal, and the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904), among others. In 1923, following the Civil War, he was named the first "People's Artist of the Republic" and became a member of the AKhRR (Association of Artists). He is considered to be one of the forerunners of Socialist Realism in the arts and was sometimes called the "Gorky of Painters". In 1956, the Soviet Union honored him with a 40 kopeck commemorative postage stamp. In 1971, his painting of a female mine worker...

"SARAH" Painting (FRAMED) 30" x 24" inch by Isaac Pelayo
Located in Culver City, CA
"SARAH" Painting (FRAMED) 30" x 24" inch by Isaac Pelayo Medium: oil and acrylic on wood Comes in frame Size framed: 32" x 26" inch ABOUT THE ARTIST: Isaac Pelayo is a head on crash collision between The Renaissance and Street Art.
