We are thrilled to offer you some high quality, Micro Mosaic pieces!
These stunning earrings feature scenes of Roman ruins created by micro pieces of coloured glass. Each piece is meticulously cut and then hand inlayed into black glass. This is truly a dying art and pieces of this quality simply don't come up too often.
One earring pictures the Roman Forum and the other pictures St Peter’s Basilica. Wow, how amazing that you can adorn your ears with such antiquity from the Grand Tour (c1880s)!
The earrings are excellent quality, with solid, 15ct Rose Gold setting (tested but not stamped). They are admirably large, measuring approximately 3cms long x 2.2cms wide and together they weigh approximately 14grams.
There is surprisingly little damage to the pieces (given their age). Both have minor nibbles to the edge of the black glass but nothing major. The Basilica earring has a few more chips than the other one (please refer to the photos). You really can’t notice the nibbles unless inspecting them closely.
The earrings are typical of the micro mosaics made in Rome in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They were intended for rich visitors on the Grand Tour who wished to bring home a souvenir of their visit to
countries whose ancient civilizations continue to inspire the rest of Europe and America, even today. These earrings are a one-off and can't be repeated.
