An innovator of technological art beginning in the early 1960s, Pallas drew inspiration from his upbringing in Detroit, Michigan where he had early exposure to the automobile industry, its materials and design. He is recognized for having employed electronics and early computer technology to enable his sculptures to respond to external stimuli. Often the circuit boards specifically designed for a particular piece were, themselves, drawings. Throughout his varied career, Pallas has created sculptures and reliefs employing a variety of subjects often imbuing the objects with humor and irony, yet connecting them to everyday life and experiences. Represented by the preeminent Allan Stone Gallery in New York for more than two decades, Pallas’s work has been exhibited in and collected by institutions nationwide including the Detroit Institute of Art, and Columbia University. In legacy, Jim Pallas’s artwork is allied with other innovative masters of the 1960s and 70s including Red Grooms, Larry Rivers, Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Yaakov Agam, Nam June Paik, Frieder Nake, Leslie Mezei, Georg Nees, A. Academical Plaster Horse Sculpture From The Parthenon Marbles at British Museum
Located in Roma, IT
An Academic plaster sculpture study from the Marble statue from the East pediment of the Parthenon that showed the miraculous birth of the goddess Athena from the head of her father Zeus. Many of the figures from the central scene are now fragmentary or entirely lost. This figure was carved as an isolated horse’s head. Its ears are flattened back, its jaw gapes, it has flared nostrils and bulging eyes. A portion of the lower jaw and the inner side of the top of the head were cut away. There are dowel holes where the metal bridle was attached. On the crest of the mane are eleven smaller holes, in which some metallic ornaments must have been inserted. This is the head of one of the horses that drew the chariot of the moon goddess...

"El Tren" Ceramic, Glaze, Colors, Mexican Folk Art, Four Sections
Located in Detroit, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY "El Tren" is a whimsical and playful rendition of a train. It is beautifully glazed in various colors. This particular ceramic was from the collection of Jane and Richard Knight’s Estate. Jane Knight was a famous fiber and textile artist. Richard was a photographer who worked for Eliel Saarinen and Alexander Girard. The Knights and Girard became close friends and it was Girard who gifted “Santa Cruz De Las Huertas Jalisco” to the Knights. Alexander Girard left his personal collection to the Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, NM. The Girards eventually amassed a collection of more than 106,000 objects from across the globe. Their 1978 gift of this collection to the Museum of International Folk art quintupled the size of their collection and prompted the construction of a new wing, which opened in 1982 and houses a mere 10% of the Girard Collection in the permanent exhibition Multiple Visions: A Common Bond, which was designed by Alexander Girard himself. This collection includes numerous multiples and is notable for its great breadth, including traditional arts, popular arts, and paper ephemera. “I believe we should preserve this evidence of the past, not as a pattern for sentimental imitation,” Girard once said, “but as nourishment for the creative spirit of the present.” Indeed, folk art was an important inspiration for Girard’s design work. The renowned Candelario Medrano...
